About The Achievers In Technology Program

Sankofatech is a non-profit with the mission to create the next-generation technologist of African descent. The organization aims to achieve this through the Achievers in Technology (AIT) program.

AIT is a rigorous four-year scholarship and mentorship program that aims to produce the next generation of technologists of African descent in the United States. The program equips scholars with essential skills and access to a network of like-minded peers, mentors, advisors, and accomplished professionals in the tech industry.

We are currently looking for volunteers to serve as Mentors or Technical Interview Coach (Software Engineering or Data Science)

AIT Mentor:

As an AIT mentor, your primary responsibility is to develop an excellent relationship with your mentee and provide guidance to help your mentee succeed in becoming a technology professional. Our team will partner with you and provide you with the additional resources and support you need to effectively work with your mentee.

Minimum Qualifications:

    • Passion and desire to make a difference in the lives of students
    • Can commit a minimum of 2 hours per month per academic year
    • Experience working in the tech industry (full-time, contract, and internship accepted)

Preferred qualifications:

    • Associates Degree or higher
    • Some experience mentoring
    • At least 2 years of experience working in the tech industry (full-time, contract, and internship accepted) 

AIT Technical Interview Coach (Software Engineering or Data Science) :

As a technical interview coach, your responsibility is to prepare scholars for technical interviews for Software Engineering or Data Science internships. Coaches prepare scholars through mock interviews and leading out on a monthly coding session where they’ll walk through coding problems with scholars.

Minimum Qualifications:

    • Passion and desire to make a difference in the lives of students
    • Can commit to leading out at least 1 coding workshop (2-hour commitment) a semester
    • Can commit to conducting mock interviews (2-hours) a semester

Preferred qualifications:

    • At least 2 years of experience working in the tech industry (full-time, contract, and internship accepted) 
    • Graduated with a postsecondary degree or certification in a STEM-related field

AIT Career Coach:

As an AIT Career Coach, your responsibility is to provide individualized career guidance to scholars and assistance in finding job/internship opportunities. Our team will partner with you and provide you with additional resources and support you need to effectively work with the scholars.

Minimum Qualifications:

    • Can commit a minimum of 2 hours every two months for the 2022-2023 academic year
    • At least 2 years of experience working in a relevant field

Preferred qualifications:

    • 5+ years of experience working in a relevant field
